Two founders, one shared instinct
Neither of us was looking for a business partner. What we found was a quiet pull toward the same kind of work, discovered separately, before we ever met.
How Inner Compass began
Inner Compass was founded by two coaches, Jessica Lamers and Nusha Agahi, who met at a dental conference of all places, from opposite sides of the country, without ever having crossed paths before. Neither was looking for a business partner. What they found was a shared instinct: a quiet pull toward the same kind of work, discovered separately as each was becoming a teacher in her own right.
That instinct became Inner Compass: an intuitive transformation coaching practice for people moving through change. Career pivots. Divorce. New motherhood. Identity shifts. The seasons of life that do not come with instructions.
The name is not decorative. It is the whole philosophy in two words. A compass does not tell you where to go. It simply shows you where you already are, and lets you find true north for yourself. That is the work: not handing people a map, but helping them grow quiet enough to hear the compass that was within them all along.
We believe you already carry your own answers. Our work isn't to hand you a map, it's to walk alongside you as you find your way back to what you already know.
Jessica and Nusha bring their own lived experience into the room, not just credentials. One of the founders has written openly about her own path through new motherhood, breastfeeding struggles, and learning, later than she wished, to ask for help. That honesty, offered first, is why clients trust the honesty asked of them in return.
Meet Jessica and Nusha
Jessica Lamers
Jessica has walked through fire more than once. She has known the loss of love to death, the new identity that motherhood demanded of her, and the loss that comes with a marriage ending. Each season asked her to rebuild from nothing, and each time, she rose again from the ashes. Her greatest gifts were forged in that fire. What she has walked through, and healed, has become the very thing she now offers to others, not a framework borrowed from someone else's life, but a steadiness earned in her own. She brings that lived rebuilding into every room with a client, because the honesty she offers first is what makes the honesty she asks of them feel safe in return.
Nusha Agahi
Not every awakening begins in crisis. Nusha's did not come from loss. It came from arrival. Raised in a stable, loving home, close to her parents and her brother, rooted in her Persian heritage, she did everything a life is supposed to do: school, college, a master's degree, then years of steady work. It was in the quiet of a break from that work that the question finally caught up with her: is this truly how we are meant to live, chained to a structure we never chose? She didn't go looking for the answer. She surrendered to it, and turned inward. That's where she met her teachers, her guides, and the love of her life, her life partner, and where she found her purpose. What followed wasn't a rescue from ruin, but a deliberate unbuilding: taking apart the structures she'd inherited as a child and rebuilding a life that actually made sense to her. That's when she started truly living. She brings that same deliberate rebuilding into every room with a client, because the permission she gave herself to question everything, even when her life looked fine from the outside, is the same permission she now offers to others.
Mission, vision & core belief
Mission
To help people moving through change trust the compass they already carry, and to walk beside them only long enough that they can find their own way home.
Vision
A world where transformation does not require someone else's map, only enough quiet, support, and permission to hear the knowing that was there all along.
Core belief
We do not hand people a map. We help them grow quiet enough to hear the compass that was always within them. The goal is for clients to trust their own voice again and graduate out, not to foster dependence. Success looks like a client who needs us less, not more.
The voice you needed
If Inner Compass has a single register underneath everything, it is this: we try to speak the way the mother a hurting child always wanted might have spoken, in the moments that child felt small, unheard, or unloved.
Not a perfect mother. Not an idealized one. Just steady: the voice that would have said "I see you," "you are allowed to feel that," and "I am not going anywhere," instead of the silence, dismissal, or overwhelm a child may have met instead.
This is not a persona we perform. It is a discipline. It means slowing down before we respond, choosing steadiness over cleverness, and never making a client feel small for needing what they need, no matter their age, no matter how long they have carried it.
How change happens
Most of the roots we help clients meet were planted young. A moment, or many moments, when a child learned to hold back, quiet down, or hide the parts of themselves the world around them could not hold, usually because the adults around them were carrying unhealed weight of their own.
What doesn't get faced doesn't disappear. It repeats. Sometimes with the same person, over and over. Sometimes through many different players wearing the same lesson. Life keeps mirroring the belief back until it finally gets looked at directly: the fear and the doubt that first asked us to hide our light, which was always our true core.
Our work is to walk beside you while you turn and face that pattern, gently, at a pace that belongs to you, and speak to the inner child underneath it the way that child needed to be spoken to the first time.
Story-based teaching
We teach the way wisdom has always actually traveled: through story, not through lecture. A guide, a metaphor, a moon cycle, a piece of someone's own life offered honestly, these land somewhere a bullet point of advice never reaches.
Our values
Trust over instruction
We guide people back to their own knowing rather than handing them ours. Every question we ask should open a door you walk through yourself.
Patience with the season
Real change does not happen on a deadline. We move with the seasons, not against them, and say so out loud when you're rushing yourself.
Depth without pressure
Gentle and inviting, always. No hard sell, no urgency games, no pushing. You are always free to say not yet.
Graduation, not dependence
We measure success by how ready you are to no longer need us. We celebrate endings as much as beginnings.
Warmth as a practice
Every touchpoint, a form, an email, a session, a booking confirmation, should feel like a hand extended, not a pitch made.
Nurturing what was told to hide
Many clients learned young to quiet the parts of themselves the world couldn't hold. We speak to that part gently, the way it always deserved.
Honesty first
Jessica and Nusha lead with their own stories and their own imperfect learning, not polished expertise alone. Vulnerability earns vulnerability.
Small by design
We would rather stay two founders serving people well than scale past the point where every client is met personally.
Coaching, not therapy
Inner Compass is coaching. It is not therapy, counseling, or a substitute for licensed mental health care. We describe our work as coaching, guidance, and support, never diagnosis, treatment, or therapy, and we refer out warmly whenever a client's needs are beyond coaching's scope.
If what surfaces ever feels heavy to hold alone, you do not have to carry it by yourself. Reach out to our team first, and we will walk alongside you and help you find further support if it is ever needed.
Inner Compass offers intuitive transformation coaching. Coaching is not a substitute for therapy, medical care, or mental health treatment. If you are in crisis or need clinical support, please reach out to a licensed professional, and we are always glad to help you find one.
